Why is dark skin a bad thing to so many people?

I'm a 16 year old girl, my parents are guyanese (south american) (i'm west indian) and my skin, although not super dark, is still quite dark.why is that a problem to so many people? It got to the point where i couldnt even look at myself in the mirror anymore..why do so many people think that lighter skin is so much more attractive..it is killing me inside..my skin is chocolate brown...and i want to think that any skin colour is beautiful.. i just have a hard time believing it when everyone badgers me about my dark skin compared to my siblings fair complexions....=((

It's not a bad thing. Some people just think that, since they have lighter complexions themselves. Don't you think that nobody is satisfied with what they have? Everyone else is always "better." The most beautiful thing in life is for someone to appreciate what they have - that's true beauty.





Also.. the people who tell you that dark skin is a bad thing..they're just saying that to make themselves feel more confident. Bullies always do that..they take pleasure in making others feel uncomfortable. Usually, bullies are the more insecure ones.





Don't fall for their schemes..you are beautiful in knowing that every skin color is beautiful.

i feel the same way i'm black and i think that lighter skin has always been better....but i think any skin color is beautiful and u need to love ourslef just the way you r!

Do you know some people are looking for a white skins but some are looking at dark skins its might be black or chocolate colour. try to be pleasent in your dress and talk with a good smile then people will look at you at dark beauty. good luck

Reply:oh dont worry gurlie you are beautiful and not everuone feels that way...i get all kinds of comment too..ppl insult b/c they think im "light" or they think im "dark". its non sense, you cant win sometimes you know? and i know that a lot of eiropean men love dark/ black women...a french guy told me that, he also said that a lot of german men like black women....i know for a fact too..i went to europe and those men thought i was atractive..more than my hot hot(f my freinds are WAAAYYY prettier thna me....i mean gorgeous..lol) friends who were asain, white, hispainic...

Reply:Look, may people are stupid. And some of the stupid people have prejudices. This really sucks. My advice to you is to stay far away from those idiots who care about the color of your skin. I do that, I have nothing to do with bigots. Those people are never any fun anyway. Think about it, would you really like to spend time with KKK members and have fun with them? Or would you rather enjoy your life with people who naturally appreciate you?

Reply:dude, i think darker skin is alot prettier. and im white!!! haha. im not sure why people have a problem with it, but it bothers me too. two of my nephews are bi-racial and they're both adorable! so many of my friends what dark-colored babies; they're so cute! please remember you are beautiful the way you are, even though the world tells us otherwise.

Reply:I do not think that anybody thinks that. Oh sure the movies influence the world often, and they are made in LA. Aishwarya Rai is the undisputed most beautiful woman in the world. Also I think white mothers do not want their children to marry dark haired and dark skinned people because those are dominant genes. Every mother wants her grandchildren to look like her. But I will never live to see the day that a grandmother does not think her grandchildren are beautiful. I wish you would post your picture.

You can't live your life based on what other people think. You have to not let them get to you, and realize that you are beautiful yourself. It will come out in you. Halle Berry was People magazine's most beautiful women in the world two years.

Reply:honey i'm so white i'm transparent. i won't tan because of the skin cancer risk, and i don't want wrinkles. i'd kill for some of your melanin pigment girl! embrace your chocolatey-ness! wear colors that complement your skin, make sure your makeup plays up your skin tone, and make sure your haircolor always makes your skin look healthy and vibrant! people probably aren't badgering you so much as wondering if you are adopted because people are stupid and nosy! i get that all the time because my sisters have thick curly hair and my hair is thin and straight-ish. so tell them to go back to their trailers and deal with their own crack-smoking families and leave you alone! you are beautiful just the way you are!


and if you come to the beach where i live, i'm the only pale girl here! all the white girls try their hardest to get as dark as they can in the tanning beds (which just manages to make them a nasty orangey color anyway *eww*), so people don't want to be pale! i always get picked on for having pale legs and not wearing stockings. people pick on others because they are unhappy with themselves.

Reply:Babygirl your skin is beautiful it doesn't matter what anybody thinks. When i was your age I got badgered because i'm a redbone. I did everything i could to get darker but nothing worked. that's just how people are when you're young. don't listen to em just love yourself
