Dry skin spot wont go away, about the size of a quarter. Just appeared one day?

Skin feels very rough, slight color difference from surrounding skin kind of a pinkish tone, much like skin that has recently had a cut or scab over it and is healing. Yet I've had no cuts or scabs. I've tried to put lotion and petreloium jelly over the area, hoping it was just dry skin but so far no luck. I will be going to see a doctor either way now, but I just wanted some possible insite before hand. Never had a problem like this before so it alarms me.

I don't know what it is (though shingles comes to mind) but I always suggest olive oil for skin issues - best applied as a moisturizer right after a shower. Can work in just a few days on dry skin if used regularly.

Peace!

This is commonly known as a liver spot.. if it changes or raises up and changes shape or texture get it checked.
Reply:I think all you have is a patch of dry skin and there is no need to worry. Have you had increased sun exposure all of a sudden or something recently before it appeared (skiing, beach, tanning bed, etc)? Usually, the patch was there from before, but being in the sun tanned the surrounding skin and makes it more visible. It goes away after a few months to a year. Hydrocortisone is supposed to help relieve the itch of the dry skin. Also, doctor may prescribe retinol (topical vitamin A) which makes skin shed and regrow faster in the treated area.
Reply:A dermatologist would be the best type of doctor to see for this ailment. You may just need prescription-strength hydrocortisone cream.
