Skin protection from swimming pool?

My son started swimming lessons 3 days ago at the inside swimming pool. The chlorine and long time water exposure dries out his skin head to toe, and his skin gets all dry and sand paper like.

He is 12 years old, what things should I bring to the pool and use on him to protect his skin?

It is a indoor pool.

It's natural, when someone is in water for a prolonged period of time extra water in the body will leave and go into the pool (since chlorine is a solute in the water, it will draw the extra water out). Don't put anything on him before he gets in the water, but when he gets out have him put some moisturizing cream and/or aloe on him to soothe the itchy dry skin.

Ask the pool owners to show you the water PH test. This is usually the problem.....water chemistry. If everything is in proper balance, you boy should not be having this reaction. Pool chemical test strips are cheap, so do it yourself.

If the chemistry is chronically out of balance, throwing more chlorine at it will only make it worse.
Reply:Get him a tube of E45 cream or a moisturiser with Aloe Vera in it. Tell him to use it after he showers at the end of the lesson. If he's showering properly, the amount of chlorine or the length of time he's in the water is unlikely to have too bad an effect.

He's 12 - YOU shouldn't be using anything on him. You should neither be in the men's changing area with him, nor dragging him into the women's' with you. It's not appropriate. If the changing area is communal with cabins it's still inappropriate for you to be in there with him.
Reply:Shower after with soap and when your home any one in the water for a long time should spray oil on there body and let is set and dry

will do great

also after the shower sprinkel baby poweder on while your on your way home and till you get oil on

Reply:make sure he rinses off as soon as he gets out of the pool and use Vitamin E cream after
Reply:I think it is kind of weird that you are putting lotion on him. He's too old for you to be doing that...he's actually too old for you to be seeing him naked in most circumstances. Anyway, I like Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Healing Lotion. It hydrates skin well without feeling greasy.
Reply:Some people are allergic to the chlorine in the pool and you can get a barrier cream from the doctor to put on before they go in the pool. If its just a matter of his skin drying out then make sure he rinses off well in the shower aferwards and puts on mosturising cream. Boots did do a range of chlorine removal shampoo and body wash which could help although I can't tell you if its still around.

P.S Don't worry about the pH of the pool, it won't be open if the levels aren't within the limits.
Reply:I suffer with dry skin and find swimming can make it worse. I use E45 emolument shower cream or aqueous cream when I shower afterwards.

You could try an aqueous cream both before and after his swim, it can also be used instead of soap.
