Is light skinned better than dark skin?

WEll, i am 13 yrs old and i am in seventh grade.i wear glasses, im not fat. im thick, im not bald, i know this may seem weird but im not flat chested either. K here's my story. Everyone calls me ugly because of my skin color. i am african american and i am dark skinned. n i dont think there is anything wrong with my face. There's this boy at my school and i overheard him say "if she wuz light skinned id go with her" i dont get it its sooo stupid he's dark skinned him self o yea he makes fun of my skin color 2. wat are they prettier than us. that just makes me want to cry. its just like saying whites are better than blacks. jus because they have light skin doesnt mean their better or prettier does it? is that wat beauty is i mean i could be pretty without being light skinned right..??

Unfortunately for you, it is true most people prefer lighter skin and less African features. You shouldn't worry about that though. You don't want "most people" to find you attractive, just the right person for you, and I'm sure he's out there and you'll meet him when you're much older.

You know what? Forget all those people! I bet that you are beautiful just the way you are. Just because some idiots have lighter skin, doesn't make them beautiful! I mean, hello, there are so many ugly people with light skin. This may sound cliche, but it's what's on the inside that matters. There are so many beautiful dark skinned people, like Tyra Banks, Beyonce, Beverly Johnson, Vanessa Williams, Grace Jones, the list goes on! And yes, you can ABSOLUTELY be pretty without being light skinned!

Reply:I'm really sorry that you have to deal with that. I have a similar problem, I am also 13 and for NO reason NO guys like me. Ok atleast you know some guys like you and evan though they are stupid and raceist you know you have admirers. I am white and I know this is kinda wierd but sometimes I wish I were African American. I live in Montana so there are like none and I would LOVE to stand out! PLUS all the guys in my grade are allways talking about how hot they think Africans are so YES I THINK DARK SKIN CAN MEAN BEAUTIFUL!

Of course you can be beautiful while still having dark skin!


Look at Naomi Campbell, Ajuma Nasenyana, and Iman. Just to name a few.

Look at her, she's gorgeous, you definitely don't need to be light skinned to be pretty. I actually think her skin color is prettier. Ignore all those jerks, especially the guys who are dark-skinned themselves, they are just hypocrites.
Reply:I am sure you are beautiful. I am 12, and have fair skin. I wish I have dark skin, because alot of african-americans are pretty. Anyway, the closest I can get to tan is my freckles. Forget those racists. They might be hiding other feelings. Just say, "Hey, too bad. You are missing out on alot. You cant try to put me down, cuz, I love the way I look."

Dark skin is beautiful. If it wasn't, why would white women buy memberships at tanning salons? Very dark skin looks amazing to me with the right lip color and eye color. If you play with makeup, it can really bring out the deepness in your skin and accentuate the features you want accentuated. Even at 13 you can wear a nice lip color that will bring out the beauty in your skin. If you go to the Fashion Fair beauty counter at your local department store they will help you pick the best colors for your skin tone and age. I was a makeup artist and did makeup for women of all races. It is amazing how many would come in insecure and walk out divas. Don't listen to anyone who says anything about skin color. Even white girls get heckled if they are too white.. Unfortunatley, we can not rid the world of idiots. We just need to have the confidence to deal with them.
