Can tea tree oil damage the skin?

I know you can use tea tree oil on spots and that's fine, but how about putting it on your actual skin? Can it damage your skin in anyway? For example, I have a few black heads on the end of my nose so would it be okay to spread some tea tree oil all over that area or is it best to apply to individual spots, blemishes and blackheads?

Tea tree oil is used in a lot of facial scrubs and washes, so I think it benefits the skin by removing dead skin cells.

Try to use it diluted with a bit of water. The packaging should also say this.

Tea tree is usually used as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, so I would personally use something else to cut through the oils that cause blackheads instead...something alcohol based like 'skin clear', or lemon juice, avoiding the eyes.
