An adult cat was found at my apartment complex laying under some stairs. People called management and said it was dead and they wanted it removed. I went to check on it and it was still breathing but VERY emaciated and dehydrated. I took it home and gave it water and kitten milk. Also I gave it a solution to flush out her system because I think she may have gotten into antifreeze. She is okay now, breathing fine and getting to be more alert but still very slow when walking and she sleeps most of the day. When I pet her, her skin makes popping noises. When I massage her neck and back it feels like there is paper under her skin. Anyone know what this may be? She was very near death when I got her.
Rescued cat has "crunchy" skin when massaged....?
Poor cat! Maybe she got frostbite, if you're going to keep her, why don't you take her to the vet, if you're not, why not take her to a shelter where they can treat her. Good luck!

Does VET mean anything????
Reply:It could be from dehydration. Try getting some Pedialyte in her. Is she eating and how long has it been since you got her? You may want to see if you can get her in to a vet to get her checked.
Reply:I would get that cat to the vet ASAP. That is the first course of action when bringing home any cat, whether it is found or bought from a breeder. Since this cat is sick, it is even more necessary to get her to the vet right away.
EDIT: You really should listen to the vet. They don't like to put animals down unless it is necessary. Try getting a second opinion from a different vet. You will have to work with a vet to get this cat back to a quality life. It is wrong to keep the cat alive if it is going to live a life of pain. You really need to think about what kind of life this cat is going to have. You really need to work closely with a vet to get the cat healthy again, but really listen to them to on what quality of life the cat can be expected to live at the end of this.
Reply:That crunchy feel and sound is called Crepitus. That is what happens when gas or air gets under the skin into the tissues. In the case of this cat, it was probably cause by a fight and bite wounds. This cat should be taken to the Vet asap. (should not have been a question here, when in doubt, get a Medical Opinion!!!!)
Reply:Somehow air may have got under the skin. Sometimes with large gaping wounds this can happen and even if the wound is healed air can get trapped...Look her over for any wounds and a visit to the vet would serve her well. If she is very dehydrated and emaciated she will need more fluids than just per os (by mouth). She sounds near death but the vet can possibly do some things to help her get hydrated and More comfortable, that won't hurt your wallet too much either. Good luck and it was so nice of you to take the poor thing in under your care:)
Reply:If its like what I've seen in the past could be a punctured lung makes a crunchy noise under the skin. If she is doing fine it should heal slowly in time . Just don't let them get to active . I run a foster rescue look through the blogs there is a list of places to apply for aide for animals also links to look up animal health conditions
